Alice Elj

Alice Virginia Elj (Nyhus), age 91 of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021.  She was born in Keewatin, MN on May 23, 1930 to Fredrick and Opal (Cowell) Nyhus.  Alice grew up on the family farm north of Nashwauk, MN and attended school in Coleraine, MN down by the lake.  She was married to Harold Elj for over 60 years.  They spent time wintering in Arizona and eventually moved down to Yuma, AZ and lived there for a while before coming back to Duluth, MN.  She loved traveling, playing bingo and fishing.  Alice had quite the imagination and was always playing jokes on family and telling far fetched stories.  Her family loved her stories and jokes and she was a loving mother and grandmother.
Alice is survived by her children; Darrell Elj of Pengilly, MN, Duane Elj of Hurley, WI and Susuan McCaskie of Hibbing, MN, siblings; Henry (Jan) Nyhus of Wyoming and Joycelyn Rude of Pengilly, MN and many grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She is preceded  in death by her parents, husband; Harold, children; Gary Elj and Barbara "Bobbie" Elj, grandchildren; Joey Elj, Jeff Elj and Derek Elj, and siblings; Gilman Nyhus, Harold Nyhus and Minnie Ball.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1PM at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing on Thursday, September 23, 2021.  Deacon Richard Johnston will officiate the service.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home at 12PM.  Interment will take place at the Nashwauk Cemetery.
