Olive Elaine Herbst Olive Elaine Herbst, 91, Hibbing, died Sat. Aug. 6, 2016 in the Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, MN.  She was born Sept. 7, 1924 to Carl and Olive Nelson in Crosby, MN. Elaine was raised on Sunset Lake near Deerwood, with 3 brothers and 2 sisters.  She went to a one ­room school house from which she graduated at age 16.  She attended Cuyuna Community College, where she met her husband, George, when the instructor needed another student to take a Botany class.  They were married June 14, 1947 until George passed away in 2002.  She had been a member of various organizations in the community and church.  She loved to play bridge, golf, knit, and do crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her children David (Terri) Herbst of Eden Prairie, MN, Cindy (Don) Hilligoss of Cohasset, MN, and Tom Herbst of Duluth, MN;  4 grandchildren Hillary (Ian) Ross, Sarah (Andrew) Moe, Charlie Hilligoss and Brendan Herbst, and a great grandson George Ross and another due August 15.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wed. in the First Lutheran Church, Hibbing.  Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 10 am. until service time.  Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
