Violet A. Anders, 98, of Nashwauk, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing, MN. She was born in Mentor, MN, on October 21, 1925 to Edward and Hattie (Kolb) Halliday. Violet met and married William Anders in 1942. They started their life together in the Nashwauk Keewatin area and began raising a family. Throughout the time she was raising the children, Violet lived in several places in Minnesota - moving as needed for Bill's work. They made their home in Federal Dam, Baxter and Milaca at various times and spent over 20 years in Rochester. Later, Violet and Bill returned to the Iron Range - settling in Nashwauk where they spent the rest of their lives. Her faith was important to her as she was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Nashwauk. Violet liked gardening, reading and most of all loved spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by two sons: William E. Anders of Maple Lake, MN; and David Anders of Rochester, MN; one daughter: Arlene Reay of Indianapolis, IN; Five grandchildren: Jennifer Montgomery (Shawn), Sandra Reay, Jon Anders, Alexa L’Abbe (Eric), and Benjamin McArdle; Six great-grandchildren: Callie, Lauraly and Kolby Montgomery, Franklin and Malcolm L’Abbe and Eamon Reay; and her brother James Halliday.
Violet is preceded in death by her parents, husband William, sister Grace Maki and brother Eugene Halliday.
Memorial service and celebration of life will take place at 11AM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will take place one hour before the memorial and interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
