Vincent Clark Austad

Vincent Clark Austad, 82, of Nashwauk, MN, passed away after a courageous three month-long battle with colon cancer. He was at home and died peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born in Oklee, MN, on June 26, 1941, to Grunde and Evelyn (Logdahl) Austad. Vincent grew up in the area and graduated from Oklee High School in 1959. After school, he went on to serve his country for two years in the US Army as Military Police. Not long after serving, he married the love of his life, Ruthella Westlake, in Plummer, MN, on July 16, 1966. Vincent worked for Bechtel Corporation early in his career traveling all over the midwest from Minnesota to Iowa and Michigan. In 1975, they settled just north of Nashwauk, MN, where Vincent and Ruthella built their beautiful home from the ground up. He had a great career for twenty-five years as the facility supervisor at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Hibbing and retired from there. Vincent was extraordinarily handy as he could build or fix anything. He started conversation and made fast friends with everyone he met. Vincent had a great sense of humor and was the life of the party as he was also a little mischievous. He enjoyed working on his land, tinkering in his garage, going to his family's Wildwood farm and ATVing and snowmobiling, specifically Arctic Cat. Above all, he loved his family and was the most proud grandpa "bapa" around as he traveled all over the place with his adored granddaughter, Faith, to an endless number of horse sporting events. She was his pride and joy.

Vincent is survived by his wife of 57 years Ruthella Austad, loving daughters Jodi Austad and Gwendolin (Chad) Yancey, cherished granddaughter Faith Evelyn Olson, siblings Frances Hudson and David (Joyce) Austad and many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and Terry Olson--the fiancée of Jodi and Faith's dad.

A celebration of Vincent's life will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Timberlake Lodge in Grand Rapids, MN.
