Rochelle "Shelly" Belanger

Rochelle "Shelly" Belanger, age 70 of Nashwauk, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the U of M Hospital in Minneapolis, MN after a brief battle with cancer.

Shelly was born on May 23, 1954, in Hibbing, MN, to Donald and Corinne ( Sherman) Schnortz. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1972. Over the years, she lived in Las Vegas, NV, Minneapolis, Shakopee, and Nashwauk, MN. Shelly and her husband, Butch, owned R & R Bait Shop in Nashwauk before they moved to Las Vegas. In Las Vegas she began her 20+ year career as a property manager. She moved back to Minnesota in the early 90's to be an apartment manager and then manage a mobile home park at different locations around the Twin Cities. She spent her retirement years until her passing in Nashwauk.

Shelly enjoyed a lot of things in her spare time; but sitting down and enjoying a good book was probably her favorite past time; trading books with her friends and family. She appreciated the wind in her hair as she rode motorcycle owning many different bikes throughout most of her life. Exploring genealogy trees for herself and friends was also a great enjoyment of hers.

Relaxation time in the woods hunting and on the lake fishing whenever she could. Can't forget the pets she had over the years, King and Sassy miniature pinchers, Scamper, a grey squirrel, a couple different sets of macaw parrots and Demon a doberman pincher.
Shelly is survived by her sons Aaron (Becky) Moellering and Jacob (Mary Jo ) Belanger; siblings, Donald "Curly" (Ann) Schnortz Jr. and Michael "Micky" ( Colleen ) Schnortz; grandchildren Gavin, Sydnee, Adaryn, Rylee, Ty, and Cormac together with multiple nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by lifelong friends Fred Anderson and Renae Wright.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband Roy "Butch" Belanger in 2022.

A celebration of life will be held on August 23, 2025, from 12pm to 3pm at the Nashwauk Township Community Hall, "the old Cloverdale Hall", north of Nashwauk on County Rd 8.

Interment & funeral arrangements will be with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, MN.
