Robert Vanek
Robert Vanek, 83, of Hibbing, passed away peacefully in is home on Monday August 28, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Brook Park, Minnesota, on November 21, 1933, to Fred and Julia Vanek. He worked as a telegrapher for Great Northern Railroad for ten years and as a maintenance planner for Jones & Laughlin-LTV mines, retiring after thirty years.
Robert was united in marriage to Carol Johnson of Sandstone, Minnesota, in 1954. They celebrated a blessed sixty-three years together.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol, of Hibbing, Minnesota; their three daughters: Linda (Randal) Neal and Terri Vanek, both of Sacramento, California, and Deanna (Jeffrey) Nelson, of Duluth, Minnesota; his siblings: Adeline Stern, Evelyn (Everett) Moss and James Vanek; his six grandchildren: Robert Phillips, Patrick McGillivray, Randy, Jr. and Grant Neal, Sydney and Samantha Nelson; and three great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home.
