Robert O. Paulsen, 78, longtime resident of Hibbing died Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home with family by his side. He was born March 28, 1946, to Matt and Anne (Plemel) Paulsen in Deer River, MN. After graduating from school, Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Judith Zuehlke on July 1, 1966, in Hibbing. He later would work with U.S. Steel as a shovel repair foreman, retiring after 37 years of service. His motto was always stay busy even if it meant twiddling your thumbs. Robert loved tinkering, gardening, deer hunting, fishing, doing word searches, and working on his Edsel. He took a keen interest in learning about animals and playing a lot of cards as one of his pastimes.
Robert is survived by his wife, Judith Paulsen, son, Jim Paulsen, both of Hibbing, brother, Anton (Sheryl) Paulsen, Buck Lake, MN, three grandchildren, Miranda, Michele and Emily Paulsen, and his great-granddaughter, Malia.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matt Paulsen, parents, Matt and Anne (Plemel) Paulsen, daughter-in-law, Shannon Paulsen, and two sisters, Diane and Elaine.
Graveside services for Robert will be 10:30 am, Monday, September 30, 2024 at Fredheim Norwegian Church Cemetery in Effie, MN. There will be a celebration of Robert’s Life at 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing, following the graveside in Effie. The Rev. Kevin Olson will officiate. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
