Richard A. Woodman age 79 of Pengilly passed away Wed. Jan 3, 2024 at
Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing with his family by his side. He was
born in Nashwauk to Richard K. and Kathryn (Dolence) Woodman on November
8, 1944. Richard attended Nashwauk High School and graduated as the last
Nashwauk Colt before the Nashwauk and Keewatin High Schools merged. During
his youth Richard worked on his uncle’s farm in Grey Eagle. Following
graduation, at the age of 17, Richard enlisted in the Air Force, he served during the
Vietnam War and was proud of his military service. He retired after 15 years in the
Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. On June 28, 1975, Richard was joined in
marriage to Vicky Stuntebeck at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk. He
enjoyed being outdoors and hunting with his family. Richard was active in the
community; he was the Assistant Gambling Manager for the Pengilly Booster
Club for 17 years and the Treasurer for the Greenway Amateur Hockey
Association. Richard was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled
American Veterans and St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church. Later in life Richard
greatly enjoyed cruising around town and on “his road” he built behind his house.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife and their children and
grandchildren. To sum up Richard in a sentence his grandson, Brayden, put it best: “ He was a
really good man.” Richard is survived by his wife, Vicky, Pengilly, MN, children, Barbara (Leroy)
Scovel, Bovey, MN, Jason (Sarah) Woodman, Chaska, MN, Timothy Woodman,
Burnsville, MN, siblings, Kenneth (Doris) Woodman, Blaine, MN, Judy
(Kenneth) Gangl, Pengilly, MN, Ronald (Kim) Woodman, Buck Lake, MN,
Stephen Woodman, Newalla, OK, James (Rhonda) Woodman, Nashwauk, MN,
Mary Beth Ross, Lakeville, MN, grandchildren, Miranda Scovel, Felicia Guertin,
Amelia Woodman, Brayden Woodman, Riley Schaefbauer, great-grandchildren,
Jensen, Hayley and Temperance Guertin, numerous nieces, nephews extended
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Kathryn, siblings, Margaret
Elj, Gary Woodman, Kathy Woodman and infant brother, James.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Saturday, January 13, 2024 at St.
Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am
until the beginning of Mass at the church. Interment will be at the Nashwauk
Cemetery. The Mid-Range Honor Guard will accord military honors.
