Renay Joann Gerdes, 74, passed away on July 22, 2026. She was born on April 3, 1952, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Eldon and Marlys Evjen.

Renay devoted more than 30 years to teaching in Independent School District 196, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. She enjoyed music, singing, spending time at the family lake up north, and cheering on her beloved Minnesota Vikings.

She is survived by her son, Nate (Netta) Gerdes; her grandson, Jayse Gerdes; and her life partner, Tom Olin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Marlys Evjen, and her brother, Neil Evjen.

Renay will be remembered for her kind heart, love of family, and the joy she found in teaching, music, and time at the lake. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Renay's life will be held in Southern Minnesota at a later date.
