Peter A. DeNucci, 76, a lifelong resident of Nashwauk, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN, following a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 29, 1948, to Tony and Josephine (Peluso) DeNucci in Grand Rapids, MN.
After graduating high school, Peter attended Bemidji State University for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as an artillery surveyor, completing two years of active duty. During his service, Peter earned an Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and qualified as a Sharpshooter with the M16 rifle. He completed his service with an Honorable Discharge in 1971, following his deployment in Vietnam.
Following his military service, Peter worked as a welder in mining for Eveleth Taconite, Minntac, and Hanna Mining Companies before joining the City of Nashwauk. He devoted 27 years to the city, proudly serving his community as their Lead Man until his retirement.
Peter was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time at his cabins, hunting, fishing in Canada, gardening, and being in the woods. He treasured time with his family and with his very best friend, Charlie Kautto, who remained a constant presence throughout his life.
Peter is survived by his two children, Gina (Scott) Clusiau of Cook, MN, and Peter (Rebecca) DeNucci of Bovey, MN; six grandchildren, Brittni (Jeremy) Thurman, Mallory Clusiau, Giana Clusiau, Casey Clusiau, Sophia DeNucci, and Maxx DeNucci; and two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Sawyer Thurman. He is also survived by his nephews Tony DeNucci (Naomi) and Mike DeNucci (Kelly); his great-nieces, Jordan Fowler and Taylor DeNucci; and his great-nephews, Louie DeNucci and Vinnie DeNucci.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Josephine DeNucci; his brother, Louie DeNucci; and his nephew, David DeNucci.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, with a time of sharing from 12:00–12:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Interment will follow at the Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk, MN. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard.
