Neill C. Timmerman, 82, Hibbing, died Sunday January 1, 2012, at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth.  He was born in Hibbing on January 21, 1929, to Arthur and Jean Timmerman.  Neill attended Hibbing schools and at age 16 entered the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II.  He was honorably discharged and after some time at home he enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War era.   He returned to Hibbing where he worked as a printer at The Hibbing Daily Tribune for 47 years.  Neill was an avid birder who owned and operated the Pot Hole Game Farm in the 70’s and 80’s.  He belonged to many national bird organizations throughout his life.  He got his first birds back in 1940, and he bred and raised birds the rest of his life.   When he was 14 years old, he and a friend rode their bicycles from Hibbing to Ames, IA to visit the veterinary school at the University of Iowa.  Neill loved hunting, fishing, and roaming through the woods.  An avid outdoorsman, he canoed the area now known as the Boundary Waters before it was designated a national park.  Neill was active in Golden Gloves Boxing as a youth, and was a member of the American Legion Post 222 in Hibbing.  He was a great storyteller and everyone enjoyed his stories
He is survived by five children: Terry Timmerman of Goodland, Cheryl (Steve) Edman of Hibbing, Tracey (Greg) Clancy of Aurora, CO, Ramona Kastet of Duluth, and Kim Timmerman of Chisholm; numerous foster children over the years; his best friend and brother, Dale (Joanne) Timmerman of Kelly Lake; a sister, Leah (Don) Haverkost of Hibbing; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dennis Timmerman, and his former wife, Judith Anderson Timmerman.
A celebration of Neill’s life will be held at 3 PM Wednesday January  4, 2012, in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
Visitation will be 1:30—3 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing at a later date.
