Mary Lou “Mitzi” and Lawrence J. Meadows

Mary Lou “Mitzi” Meadows, 88, Hibbing, MN, died Saturday March 17, 2018 in Excelsior, MN. She was born Dec. 31 1929 in Chisholm, MN, the daughter of John and Frances (Globokar) Ponikvar. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends, traveling, cooking, doing anything in the garden, working outside in the sun and mostly loved having her grandchildren around and even holding “summer camp at Grandma’s for the kids”. She was preceded in death by her sisters Frances Nobens, Veda Ponikvar, Jenny Whiteacre and her brother John Ponikvar.

Lawrence J. Meadows, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, MN. Larry was born in Hibbing on Feb. 6, 1932, son of the late Fred and Mary (Marolt) Meadows. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School class of 1950.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He and Mary Lou were married for 63 years. He was a pilot for 20 years and worked for the City of Hibbing for 15 years. A true outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing in Canada and Minnesota with family and friends. He was an avid Vikings, Timberwolves, Twins, Wild and Lynx fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Robert.

They will be dearly missed by their children, Mike (Lynn) Meadows, of Chanhassen, LeeAnn Meadows of Eden Prairie, Mark (Stephanie) Meadows, Plymouth, Grandchildren Mikaela, Sam, Zach, Mimi, and Paige, relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services and a celebration of life for both Mitzi and Larry will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 am. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:45 at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Memorials to N.C. Little Memorial Hospice, Inc., 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina, MN 55435 are suggested in lieu of flowers or cards. Thanks to the staff at Shorewood Landing and N. C. Little Hospice for taking care of Mom and Dad at the end of their lives.
