Michael J. Tilock

Michael J. Tilock 70, passed away on January 15, 2018, with his family at his side, in Minneapolis, MN.  He was born March 30, 1947 in Hibbing, MN and was previously from Alpharetta, GA.  Mike was proud to be a Brooklynite, a neighborhood in Hibbing and attended school there. Mike graduated from Assumption Hall followed by HHS in 1966, where he was a proud member of the Junior Achievement organization.  He played hockey and baseball in his youth.  He also played for the Hibbing Flyers and later on in the Chesapeake Hockey League of VA. He worked at M.A. Hanna mining in Hibbing. Mike served in the U.S. Marine Corps, from February 1969 to February 1973, where he held the rank of Corporal. Later moving to McLean, VA where he worked running heavy equipment for a few years. Mike then owned a semi trucking company. Finally, living his lifelong dream, he made a commitment to the horse community in GA for the past 40 years. He was owner of the Atlanta Horse Center, hosting the Special Olympics & Lipizzaner stallions. Mike owned & stood Appaloosa Stallions for breeding, raised, trained and sold them and other breeds also. He was well respected in this business by the equestrian community. His passion for horses and people in need was always a priority to him. Mike was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, an international fraternal and service organization, where he served as Sergeant of Arms for a time.

Survived by siblings, Jim (Judy) of Mpls., Pete (Teresa) of Fargo, N.D., Rosie Bright of Mpls., Pat (Dave) Klebs of Isanti, Frankie (Bob) Fetrow of Fridley and sister in law Shelly Tilock of Hibbing. 18 special nieces & nephews and a host of friends and relatives both in MN and GA

He was preceded in death by his parents; John & Mary (Tomljenovich) Tilock; two sisters, Marianne Tilock and Theresa Gregorie and a brother, John Jr.(Hi-Fi) and a brother in law, Gus Bright.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 12 Noon with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow int Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Memorials preferred to a horse rescue of your choice in Mike's memory. Mike will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
