Michael J. Richtarich Jr., 86, longtime resident of Britt, MN and formerly of Hibbing, MN died Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. He was born October 11, 1939, to Michael and Julia (Marold) Richtarich in Virginia, MN. Michael attended Buhl Schools. After graduating he completed his bachelor’s degree in Math education at UMD and later completed a master's in administration from UMD as well. He worked for the Eveleth and Hibbing school districts for a total of 34 years before his retirement. Michael entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Peggy (LeDoux) Richtarich on June 9, 1962. He was a past member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, the Hibbing Elks Lodge, and the Hibbing Curling Club. Michael, along with Peggy, operated Arrowhead Drivers Training for 15 years. Michael enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and traveling the world with Peggy after retirement. Following 53 years of marriage, Peggy passed away in 2015. Michael was fortunate to meet Ann Marie Beaver in 2016 and they were able to spend the last 10 years together at Lake Leander with winters in FL. Michael always loved dogs and always had a loyal companion by his side. His current red lab, Theo, will certainly miss him.
He is survived by his three children, Susan (David) Golfis, Waterford, MI, Sandy (Dan) Courneya, Side Lake, MN, and Tony (Kelly) Richtarich, Naples, FL, his six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Wade) O’Mara, Kaitlyn (Andrew) Micovich, Sarah (Kyle Miller) Golfis, Jeffrey (Gabby) Courneya, Adrian (Grant Seyller) Richtarich, and Riley (Hannah) Richtarich, three great-grandchildren, Teddy O’Mara, Maren O’Mara, and Jackson Micovich, along with his significant other, Ann Marie Beaver.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy Richtarich, his beloved grandson, Eric A. Courneya, and his sister, Margaret Redmond.
Funeral services for Michael will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 5, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Daniel Weiske will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am funeral Mass at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Angel Fund, or to the Donor’s choice. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
