Mavis “Sue” Elaine Gangl, 84, of Chisholm, died Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center with assistance from the Fairview Range Home Care and Hospice in Hibbing, Minnesota. She was born on November 19, 1940, to George and Mary “Florence” (Oquist) Kraft in Mora, MN. When she lived with her family in Kelly Lake, she attended Hibbing High School. Sue was united in marriage to Richard Gangl on November 29, 1958. While her children attended school, Sue volunteered her time at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church as a catechist, who taught children about the Catholic faith, and as a member of the Alter Society to plan various fund raising and celebratory events. After Rich retired, Sue worked for Intown Pizza and Fred’s Grocery Store in Nashwauk. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a variety of hobbies, including cooking/canning, gardening, reading, putting puzzles together and her various crafting skills included embroidery, crocheting/knitting, and macramé. She loved to visit with family and friends and never said no to a game of cards or board games. She also enjoyed attending music shows and dancing.
Survivors include her companion Henry “Hank” Carlson; three sons: Michael (Roxanne) of Brainerd, MN, David (Gayle) of Fridley, MN., and Patrick (Wally Goettl) of Stillwater, MN.; three granddaughters: Amy, Sr. M. Annuntiata (Sarah) and Katie; one grandson, Kyle (Laura); three great granddaughters Laila, Evelyn and Ruth; sibling: Gerald “Pete” (Sue) Kraft; sisters-in-law Eleanor Eckman-Gohman and Sharon Gangl, and brother-in-law Joesph Kovach; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great- nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Tina; her parents; and siblings, George, Jr, “Sonnie”, Beverly, and Gordon “Corky” Kraft.
A special thank you to Hank Carlson, whose support allowed her to live independently of nursing facilities for the past three years. She is now in the arms of God.
Funeral services for Mavis will be 11:00 am, Thursday, July 31, 2025, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk, MN. The Rev. Fr. Babu Mandagiri will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday. Internment will take place at the Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk, Minnesota.
