Mary J. Hodge

May 18, 1937 — November 26, 2023

Hibbing

Mary Jane (DeJarlais) Hodge passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born to Lester and Bertha DeJarlais on May 18, 1937 in Hibbing, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Charles Hodge on June 29, 1957 and they enjoyed nearly 67 years of memories together. Mary had many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was to be a loving wife to Bud, mother to Bill and Joey, Grams to Blair, Kelly and Meghan, and GG to Addison, Connor, and Lena. She loved to make everyone’s favorite dishes and always had something to offer when people stopped by the house to visit. She was an amazing cook and baker and loved to share her recipes with anyone who asked. Mary enjoyed many hands of cribbage in her life, teaching all her grandkids how to play, and delighting in the fact when she got to skunk them. Mary and Bud spent many summers at their cabin on Buck Lake, enjoying 11:00 a.m. Beer Break and all the memories they made hosting family and friends up there. Often you would find Mary out in the boat with a rod in her hand, singing “Here fishy, fishy, fishy”. She always had the most patience and often the biggest fish. When her grandkids spent the night with her and grandpa at the lake, she always sent them off to bed with a “Good night, don’t let the bed bugs bite. If

they do, hit them with a shoe, until they’re all black and blue” which was then met with lots of tickling and giggles. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles ‘Bud’ Hodge; her son, William ‘Bill’ (Peggy) Hodge, Hibbing, MN; her “Twinkies”, Blair (Nate Samarzja) Hodge, Barnesville, MN and Kelly (Bob) Polcher of Fargo, North Dakota, her “Favorite Grandchild” Meghan (Dillon) Tomassini, Hibbing, MN; her great-grandchildren, Addison, Connor, and Lena; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Donna Wedin; brother Robert ‘Bobby’ DeJarlais; and son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lisa (Graveline) Hodge. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
