Lillian A. McCormick
Lillian A. McCormick, age 101, Hibbing, lifetime Bemidji resident, died Monday, December 19, 2011, at Fairview University Medical Center—Mesabi, Hibbing. She was born in Bemidji, Minnesota, on September 16, 1910, to Henry and Bertha (Rudy) Marin. Lil graduated from Bemidji High School in 1927 and French’s Business College. She was united in marriage to Hugh T. McCormick on Jan. 14, 1935. Lil had worked as a secretary at the Bemidji Gas Company, and later she and Hugh owned and operated several service and bulk oil stations in Bemidji and then the Index Stationary Store for several years. Lil worked as the bookkeeper/secretary for all of the businesses. Lil and Hugh enjoyed summers at their cabin on Lake Movil near Bemidji and when they retired, they took many memorable trips. Lil was an active member of St. Phillips Catholic Church in Bemidji, a founding member of the Ladies Division at Bemidji Country Club, and the Does Club. She was skilled at embroidery and painting, and loved to read. When her eyesight failed, she missed her crafting and reading.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Jack) Henderson of Forest Lake, MN, and Kathryn (Larry) Furlong of Hibbing, MN; seven grandchildren: Thomas (Bernadine) Henderson, Kathryn (Warren) Anderson, Timothy (Kim) Henderson, Joseph (Julie) Henderson, Patrick (Kris) Furlong, Michael (Amie) Furlong, and Kathleen (Mike) Fredeen; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, Lillian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, in 1982, her parents, and siblings Vera Murdoch and Henry Marin.
Visitation will be 9—10 AM Thursday, December 22, 2011, at St. Philips’s Catholic Church, Bemidji.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Thursday in the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.
