Les J. Olson, 69, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, June 30th, after a courageous cancer battle. He was born on March 26, 1955, in Chicago, to John and Phyllis (Hanson) Olson.

As a young boy, Les and his family moved to Hibbing where later Phyllis would marry LaVerne Olson, whom Les loved as a dad. After attending Hibbing schools, Les moved to California where he was joined by many family members and friends. Eventually he returned home, graduated from college, and was united in marriage to Sheri Barrett on April 1st, 1989. They raised their family and when they were not traveling to various sporting events for the boys, they relished their time in the outdoors. While Les taught his boys how to hunt and fish he enjoyed his work at Mesaba Academy and more recently North Country Chevrolet, where he semi-retired in 2020. Les was a talented musician, a member of several bands, and his guitar was always with him. Most who know him were lucky to be around the campfire with him listening to him strum and sing his favorites.

Les is survived by his wife, Sheri Olson of Hibbing, sons, Les, Dylan and Braden Olson, of Hibbing, siblings, Myrna (Bill) Rustad of Alexandria, Judy (Ron) Kylochko of Chisago City, Carol Yaroscak and Cindy (Scott Timmerman) Olson both of Kelly Lake, Roxanne (Tony) Berwald of Maplewood, Todd (Gina) Olson of Hibbing, father-in-law, Ronald Barrett, sisters-in-law, Mitzi (Joel) Olson, Vicki (Brian) Geving, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Phyllis Olson, brother Jerome Olson and mother-in-law, JoAnn Barrett.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, July 11th at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing with Les’s good friend and Pastor Dave Popilek officiating.

Les’s family would like to thank the many healthcare staff that loved and cared for him the past few years. Their love and attention for Les is sincerely appreciated.
