LaVerne M. (Anderson) Maki

LaVerne M. Maki, 101 passed away, Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing, MN.  She was born December 13, 1916 to Arvid and Johanna (Westerholm) Anderson in Twig, MN.  She attended Grand Lake School and graduated from Duluth Central High School.  She later attended Duluth Business College.  She was employed at Marine Iron.

LaVerne married Eino Maki and lived in Toivola, MN for 40 years.  They raised 3 children and ran a small family farm.  She was active in community affairs, a 4-H Club leader and a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Toivola.  During this time, LaVerne also worked at Northland Telephone Company in Meadowlands and Clusiau’s in Hibbing as well.  In later years, she moved to Hibbing and joined First Lutheran Church.

LaVerne leaves behind three children, Faye Holets, Donald Maki, and Rolland (Nancy) Maki, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eino Maki, parents, Arvid and Johanna, three sisters, three brothers, three nieces, a nephew, daughter-in-law, and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services for LaVerne will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Open Door Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Paul Hammar will officiate.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the 1:00pm memorial service at the church on Saturday.  In honor of Sylvia Maki, LaVerne’s daughter-in-law’ recent passing, there will be a joint reception  beginning at the church at 11:00 am on Saturday.  LaVerne’s visitation and service will follow the reception.  A private family interment will be in Toivola Cemetery, Toivola, MN.  LaVerne’s family would like to express a sincere thank you to the Guardian Angels Staff for all of the passionate care for their mother over the past several years.  Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church of Toivola, or First Lutheran Church of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
