Judith “Judy” E. Mack, age 85 of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully at Serving Hart Assisted Living in Chisholm, MN, with family members by her side.
Judy was born on July 30, 1940, at home in Cherry, MN, to Walter and Lillian (Anderson) Louhi. She met the love of her life, Jim Mack, at Cherry High School, and they married on September 21, 1957. They traveled most of the US before settling at Berg Road and building a family. As a young mom whose husband was soon overseas in the military, she went to clerical school and later worked at the Hibbing Hospital and a dental office. She was known to be kind and hardworking. As her children grew up and she became an empty nester, Jim and Judy did more traveling on camping and hunting trips to visit family. After retirement, much time was spent with her children and grandchildren in the gardens, picking raspberries and wildflowers at their home. The family spent much time chatting at her kitchen table and watching the birds and deer in the yard, as she always cared for them as well. Later, she and Jim built a log cabin on the St. Louis River, which became a second home to them. Her meals during hunting season soon became famous, and she always had a pot of coffee ready on the stove. She will be remembered most of all for her thoughtfulness- always having toys for the young kids, night lights for sleepovers, always having a sweet treat in case there were visitors, and never missing a birthday. She was gifted at loving people well and will be dearly missed.
Judy is survived by her children, Julie (Dave) Hendrickson, Kathy Mack, and Paul (Ginny Richmond) Mack, grandchildren: Jeremy (Lara) Mohawk, Nathan (Erin) Hendrickson, Justine (Graham) Redshaw, and Jessica Mack, great-grandchildren: Jordan, Tinu, Feyi, Joshua, Issac, Caleb, Chloe, Aria, Reagan, Wesley, and Malia, and great-great-granddaughter, Adelynn as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Mack; siblings, Richard Louhi, Jeannie Lind, and Arlene Erickson; and friend Karen Joki.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior, and a private interment will take place at a later date at the Cherry Clinton Cemetery in Cherry, MN.
