Jean Marie Korhonen

Jean Korhonen, age 74, of Goodland passed away with her family at her side on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. Jean was born August 14, 1948 in Hibbing to Quentin and Katheryn (Jugovich) Jivery. Jean attended Hibbing High School and married Ken Korhonen on July 6, 1968. They lived in Swan River and Grand Rapids until they bought a farm and settled in Goodland where they raised their two sons. Jean was an excellent cook and worked at several local restaurants. Jean was a caring and outgoing person. She could start a conversation with anyone and loved time with her grandchildren, family visits and lunches with friends. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was an expert at canning. She liked trying new recipes and craft projects. In retirement, she enjoyed camping and traveling with Ken to Florida in their motor home. We love her and miss her. She will always be in our hearts. Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Marjory Doberstein; and two brothers, John Jivery and Patrick Jivery. Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ken; sons, Michael (Elizabeth) Korhonen and Thomas (Amanda) Korhonen; grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Kassie, Cameron and Miya Korhonen and Kayla (Mik) Skalisky; siblings, Marsha (Tony) Perille, Roberta (Charles) Zidich, Thomas (Peggy) Jivery, Francis Jivery, Steven (Keeke) Jivery, Timothy (Mary) Jivery, Maryjo (Mike) Fetzik; and many friends and relatives. Visitation and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will start at 10:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
