Janice Gail Anderson passed away peacefully on May 23rd surrounded by her family after succumbing to cancer. She was born in 1937 to Alex and Emma Fox and spent her whole life in Hibbing. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1956 and in 1958 married Donald “Joe” Anderson. Together they raised a family. She loved her children, always worrying if they were fed and warm enough. Her soft heart felt deeply for any person or creature she saw suffering. She always wanted to help and had a deep compassion for all children.

She enjoyed gardening, mysteries and puzzles, especially crossword puzzles. She loved traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. While she was still able most days would find her walking around town either alone or with friends and family.

She was primarily a homemaker, but after high school she worked briefly as a receptionist for the M.A. Hannah Mining Company, a job she remembered fondly. Later in life she worked a number of years at the Sunrise Lyba Deli where she made many dear friends.

She was active in the 1st Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, served on a number of committees and volunteered wherever she felt needed. Her raisin bars were always popular after services.

Although her memory, hearing, and vision let her down the last few years, her happy spirit never diminished, and she was grateful for every moment of life she had. Flowers, a clear blue sky, fireworks, autumn leaves, and a fresh snow were always remarked upon with a small measure of wonder. Beauteous was one of her favorite words.

She was a wonderful mother and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother William Fox. She is survived by her brother Gary Verant, children Keith (Stacey) Anderson, Kimberly (Russ) Anderson, Ken Anderson as well as her grandchildren, Ben, Emily, and Samantha.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Fairview Range Hospice which was an incredible blessing in her final days.

Funeral services for Janice will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Rev. Brian Birk will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
