Harold G. “Harry” Wentland

December 21, 1959      March 8, 2024

Harold “Harry” Wentland, 64, longtime resident of Hibbing died Friday, March 8, 2024 at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth MN.  Harry was born December 21, 1959 in Mitchell, South Dakota, oldest son to Harold and Dorothy Wentland. The family moved to Hibbing in 1966, where Harry attended Hibbing High School before going to work as a cement mason. He was a member of local union 633. Harry was married to Karen in 1980, and they had three children. Though they separated later, they still both cared for their kids and grandkids very much. He retired after a knee injury and looked forward to spending as much time as he could camping at Cass Lake.

Harry can be remembered for being a resilient and determined guy. He successfully recovered from addiction and was proud to be involved in the NA community. In 2014, Harry had a brain aneurysm while fishing on Cass Lake. He miraculously survived and fought to regain his independence. He loved his home at the Androy and always appreciated his friend Meritt as well as his mom, sister Mary, and nephew Doug for helping him live independently later in life.

Harry could strike up a conversation with anybody he met, and always had a joke or story to tell. He was always sure to wish his family and friends a “wonderful day.” He was known for being outgoing and never afraid to speak his mind.

Harry also loved camping, fishing (on ice and water alike), hunting, and animals.  He liked hockey, and always cheered for a Northern MN team to beat “Cake-eaters” from “The Cities.”  He also loved classic rock music and never passed up an opportunity to play “Who Sings This Song” with those around him.  Another favorite pastime of Harry’s was dirt track racing at the Hibbing Raceway.  He anxiously awaited Saturday evenings, loving every minute of the weekly programs.

Harry always enjoyed generously treating his friends and family to a meal out at Sammy’s, Bailey’s, or Sporty’s and always had a kind word to say to all the staff members.

Harry’s family wanted to leave you with one of his quotes; “Have a wonderful day! Because in a blink of an eye everything can be gone!”

Harry is survived by his mother Dorothy, sister Mary, brother Alan; his three children Liz (Tom), Kate, and Joe; his grandchildren Lucy, Carol, and Wyatt; nephews Douglas, Elijah, and Jonah; great nieces Hannah and Jada; great nephews Jeremiah and Lyrik; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father Harold, his brother Ernie, and his grandparents.
