Gerald J. Gunville
Gerald J. Gunville, 94, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Sat. Dec. 31, 2011 in the Fairview University Med. Ctr- Mesabi, Hibbing. He was born Dec. 7, 1917 in Hibbing, the son of Arthur and Mary Rose Gunville. He married Rose Mary Berklacich in 1942 and had worked for Mesaba Service and Supply until his retirement. A devout Catholic, he had attended the McGolrick Institute as a child and was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. Following the death of Rose Mary in 1981, he married Harriet Kordish in 1984. His hobby in detailed woodworking, gave his family many pieces to remember him by.
He is survived by his children Pat (Gary) Templeton of Chisholm, MN, Larry Gunville of Apple Valley, MN, Jim (Mary Ann) Gunville of Chanhassen, MN and Gail (Joe) Checco of Hibbing, a stepson David (Suzanne) Kordish of Spokane, WA, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives Rosemary and Harriet, his brothers Raymond and Robert and 2 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Blessed Sacrament Church, Hibbing, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at 12 Noon. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery with his grandsons and great grandsons acting as pallbearers. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Assumption School.
