Gary E. Verant

Gary E Verant, age 95 of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN.He was born April 1, 1930, at his home in North Hibbing to Joseph and Emma (Pomeroy) Verant, and lovingly raised by Alex and Emma Fox. Gary grew up in Hibbing, graduating from Hibbing High School in 1948. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 in the Korean War as a Radio Man 2nd Class.

Gary married the love of his life, Eileen (Holmen), on July 10, 1954, and they were married 67 years, until Eileen's passing in December of 2021. Gary and Eileen spent all of their time together. They loved to travel and took many trips throughout the years, with Mexico and the Panama Canal being a couple of their favorites. They also loved wintering in Arizona and Florida.

Gary was employed with M.A. Hanna for 37 years and retired as the Superintendent of Industrial Relations. He was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing, and his faith was very important to him. He was also a member of the Hibbing Moose Club and the Hibbing Elks. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening his tomatoes. Gary was known to have a sweet tooth and would never turn down a piece of blueberry pie! He was very much a people person and will be missed by all who knew him. 

Gary wanted to extend a special thank you to Steven Jolowsky, Judy Shea, Lynn & Mary Walters, Kenny Anderson, and Janet Curtis for all their love, care, kindness, and support.

Gary is survived by sisters, Geri Rensmiller (Naples, FL) and Pat Verant (MI), numerous nieces and nephews, and seven godchildren.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, dad, Alex Fox, wife, Eileen (Holmen) Verant, sister, Janice Anderson, and brother, William Fox.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Pastor Kevin Olson of Our Savior's Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Maple Hill Columbarium in Hibbing.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the charity of your choice in Gary's memory.
