Frederic J. Lunka age 91 of Hibbing passed away Wednesday October 9, 2024, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born November 20, 1932, in the Uttica mining location of Hibbing to Frank and Anna (Arko) Lunka. Fred attended Hibbing High School; in the winter of 1951 he joined the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict Era and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent in September of 1952. Fred was a master electrician; he worked in the commercial construction trade for various companies including Mountain Electric. Fred’s attention to detail and quality of work was unmatched. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. His faith was very important to him and he frequently attended Mass. Fred was a world traveler. He visited Yugoslavia numerous times throughout the 60’s and 70’s, London, Hawaii, snowmobile trips to Yellowstone and took numerous trips to Seattle to visit his brother. Family was very important to Fred, he was close to his mother, caring for her as she got older. He was also particularly close to his sister Betty; they enjoyed following Slovenian Bands across the US and dancing to Polka music. Fred was also an avid outdoorsman, bowler and was a member of a local snowmobiling club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna, siblings, Franklin and Betty. Fred is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Friday, November 22, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held at 9:30 am at church. Interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Mid-Range Honor Guard will accord military honors.
