Elizabeth “Dede” Helen Nelson

Elizabeth “Dede” H. Nelson, 93, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN.  She was born November 15, 1924 to Peter and Johanna (Klinc) Majerle in Hibbing.  Elizabeth entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Donald E. Nelson on August 6, 1949 in Hibbing.  She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.

She is survived by her four children, Ted Nelson, Hibbing, Anne (Tony) Nemgar, West Des Moines, IA, Margaret (Bill) Schafer, Strathcona, MN, and Kathleen (Rolf) Peterson, St. Louis Park, MN, seven grandchildren, Becky (Judd) Knispel, Katie (Chris) Long, Aaron, Peterson, Sam Peterson, Louis Peterson, Ben (Ashley) Schafer, and Pete Schafer, four great-grandchildren, Madeline & Elise Knispel, Mason & Lexi Long, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald in 2005, four brothers, Peter, Powell, George and John Majerle, four sisters, Mary Oberstar, Anna Peyla, Katherine Riikola, and Jenny Bodin, and her great-granddaughter, Amelia Schafer.

Funeral services for Elizabeth will be 11:00 am, Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Elizabeth’s family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staffs at Greenview Residence, Hibbing, Heritage Manor, Chisholm, Fairview Range Hospice, and Dr. Amy Hilde-Philips for the exceptional and compassionate care given to their mother over the past few years.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
