Elizabeth "Bickey" Ann Petroske

May 20, 1931 — May 11, 2024

Side Lake, MN

Elizabeth "Bickey" Petroske, Hibbing/Side Lake, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at age 92.
Bickey – as she was known to her friends and family was born on May 20th, 1934, in Hibbing, Minnesota.
She attended Alice Elementary School, Hibbing High School, St Catherine’s College and Graduated in
1953 from the University of Minnesota. Post College, Bickey taught part-time prior to marrying the love
of her life – Jack Petroske – on July 28 th 1956, and began the journey of starting their family.
As the daughter of a successful local businessman, Bickey was provided opportunities to travel in her
early years. These experiences shaped her love for travel that she never lost. As the wife of an avid
outdoorsman, Bickey was a frequent participant in various hunting and fishing escapades, and could often
been seen collecting money from unsuspecting friends during the weekend contests for biggest fish at
the famed Mississippi Hilton! In the early 70’s, Bickey and Jack became founding partners of Plan-it Travel
in Hibbing. This fueled and supported even further travel adventures she did across the globe. Along
with various trips to Europe, China and India, Bickey shared that her most favorite trip was to Africa.
Many of these trips included returning with a treasure or relic of some local significance to further
remind her of the various cultures outside of her home state, and enhancing her need to continue to
learn new things.
Bickey inherited her mother’s artistic side in her home choice of décor…often sprinkling in various
paintings, metal works and other interesting and fun items to create a look at her home and cabin that
was both unique and interesting. In her later years, when she and Jack were no longer able to travel, she
would constantly follow the various trips her family members made across the US and other countries as
they traveled by Air, Car, Boat or Motorhome! Bickey was known for having an infectious smile, a
hearty laugh – even at her own expense, a desire to experiment with cooking, and a deep love for her
friends and family….she will be greatly missed.
Bickey was preceded in death by her parents George (Sandy) and Ethelyn McHardy, husband Jack,
beloved daughter Ann, sister Posey Kaim and brother Peter McHardy.
She is survived by son’s Michael (Cindy) Petroske, Side Lake, Thomas (Mary) Petroske, Hibbing, David
(Jennifer) Petroske, Minnetonka, grandchildren Kyle and Alex Petroske, Susan
Petroske, Jenny (Paul) Fix, Christy Razavi (Wade McDaniel) and Tyler Bjick, her 2
great grandchildren Archie McDaniel and Hannah Fix, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial for Bickey will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 at the Side
Lake Chapel of Blessed Sacrament Parish.  No visitation will be held prior to mass.  Father Bill Skarich will officiate services.
A private interment will take place at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
