Elfleda L. Brownlee, 86, longtime resident of Hibbing died Friday, December 29, 2023 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born September 1, 1937 to Nathan and Minnie (Hill) Lamphere in Crosby, MN. Elfleda graduated from Hibbing High School. She later would own and operate Brownlee’s Silk Flowers as her career. She was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hibbing, and a member of the Maple Hill Community Club. She attended Bible study and was active in some church circles throughout her lifetime. Elfleda was also very involved with the Wednesday School church program and religious release. She was a caregiver for her mother in her own home for many years. Some of her favorite hobbies and pastimes were chasing her kids around, reading, sewing, cooking, baking, and loved being a grandma.
She is survived by her children, Aileen Manner, Floodwood, MN, Alan (Rene) Brownlee, Rockford, MN, Dale (Jane) Brownlee, Chisholm, MN, James (Andrea) Brownlee, LaFayette, IN, John (Cindi) Brownlee, Hibbing, MN, and Denise Brownlee of Hibbing, MN, sisters-in-law, Shirley Arnold, California, and Nancy Brownlee, Washington, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Marie Brownlee, husband, Wayne Brownlee in 2005, two grandchildren, Rhandi and Kasey Brownlee, her parents, Nathan and Minnie, two brothers, Arthur and William Lamphere, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lamphere, and Patti Stafford, and her mother and father-in-law, Katherine and Norton Brownlee.
Funeral services for Elfleda will be 11:00 am, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Bill Skarich will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am Mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
