Elaine Jean Gursky
February 3, 1952 — March 10, 2024
Las Vegas on Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born February 3, 1952, to
Lawrence and Beverly (Johnson) Kerr Sr. in Hibbing. Elaine was a 1971 Graduate
of Hibbing High School. Following graduation, she spent 3 years in Chicago
before moving back to Hibbing and marrying her high school sweetheart Ricky
Tawyea. Elaine had various occupations before landing a job at the Hibbing Park
Hotel where she worked until her retirement in 2013. Very shortly after retiring
Elaine moved to Las Vegas and in April of 2014 she married Edward Gursky.
Elaine was on the synchronized swim & dive team in high school, she was a
member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hibbing, Women of the Moose, Iron
Range Dart League, Bar Poker League, Women’s Bowling Association, and
Birthday Club with the girls! She enjoyed Texas Hold Em and Bingo tournaments,
gambling, cruises, road trips with her daughter Becca, playing cards and spending
time with family. Elaine is survived by her husband, Edward Gursky, daughter,
Rebecca Shain, son-in-law, Brian Shain Sr., siblings, Lawrence (Laura) Kerr Jr.,
Mike Kerr, Melody Johnson, grandchildren, Samantha (Damon) Blaylock, Brian
Shain Jr. and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Lawrence and Beverly, siblings, Dorothy Werth, infant brother, Lee James Kerr
and dear friend, Ricky Tawyea. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm
Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be
one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
