Edward “Eddy” Monacelli Sr., 93, of Hibbing, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024.
Eddy was born June 22, 1931, in North Hibbing and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1949. Eddy was a proud Italian and an active “Moose Minstrel” singer at the Moose Lodge and an amateur ukulele and harmonica player. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1955. Upon returning from overseas, he met and married Phyllis and began their 68-year courtship. Eddy had an incredible work ethic and held several jobs simultaneously over the years to provide for his family. Despite his long hours, he always found time to enjoy family events, and his love and support was always felt by his children and grandchildren.
“Fast Eddy” never met a back scratch he didn’t like, and he was always ready with a funny joke or quip. He was a longtime usher at Immaculate Conception and Blessed Sacrament churches and is often remembered by those who knew him as a custodian at the Jefferson, Lincoln, and Washington schools. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, bowling, and curling until the last few years of his life.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Turk) Monacelli; son Ed (Roberta) Monacelli Jr., Hibbing (children Nick and Laura); daughter Debbie Monacelli (Greg) Dodge, Buffalo, MN (daughters Jayde and Skyler); son Tom Monacelli, Hibbing (children Christopher, Amanda, and David (Autumn)); and son Jim (Carla) Monacelli, Woodbury, MN (daughters Francesca and Ava).
He was preceded in death by son Michael in 2022, father Mario, mother Cesaria, sister Marian, and brothers Geno and Vincent.
Eddy’s service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing, on Monday, November 4th at 11AM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service beginning at 10AM. Military interment will occur at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing following the luncheon.
