Dwane Harold Hemenway

Dwane H. Hemenway, 85, longtime resident of Forbes, MN, died Sunday, March 29, 2026, at his home in Forbes, MN. He was born on November 22, 1940, in Buffalo, MN to Mabel (Stout) and Harold Hemenway.

Dwane had a variety of jobs, his first was working for Westby’s Gas Station in Hibbing, MN., going forward, he was employed with Tool and Die and Sunshine-Bisquick in Minneapolis, MN. Dwane then moved back to the Range and was employed with Hibbing Taconite for 27 years until his retirement. Dwane also loved life on the farm in Forbes. He enjoyed his cattle, his tractor, making hay, and spending time with his family and country life.

Dwane was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm, MN, where he served as a Lay Minister till his recent illness.

He enjoyed many pastimes; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping with his family, and in latter years in his green bus. Dwane loved music from country to gospel and everything in between. He loved to dance in his earlier years, go to lunch at Bailey’s Café, and loved to visit for coffee, maybe three cups of black coffee and a cake doughnut or two, like his mother used to make.

Dwane’s dedication to those in need was one thing he continually cared about. He’d ask how everyone’s family was doing. He loved the Lord, and whenever he called Dwane home, he always said he was ready. When asked his favorite hymn, it was, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, which was played at his 85th birthday last year at Grace Lutheran Church.

Dwane is survived by his daughter Linda Kilen, son Kenny Hemenway, his grandchildren, Chantelle, Nick, Candice, Chris (Emmalyn), Kyle, great-grandchildren, Zackary, Alex, Zayden, and Jasper, his two sisters, Marlyss (Ted) Gunderson and Cheryl Intihar, sister-in-law, Joan Hemenway, daughter-in-law, Shari Hemenway, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Harold, his two brothers, Dale and Dennis Hemenway, son Alan Hemenway, daughter-in-law, Christine Hemenway, and his children’s mother, Sharon.
