Dorothy Beissel

Dorothy “Dee” B. Beissel  April 9, 1915 – December 13, 2011
Dorothy B. Beissel, 96, Chisholm, died Tuesday December 13, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth with family at her side.   She was born April 9, 1915 in Chisholm, Minnesota to Blazo and Milosova (Lonchar) Burich.  Dorothy grew up in Chisholm and was educated in the Chisholm schools.  She married Sylvester ‘Bud’ F. Beissel on February 15, 1964.  Dorothy was a lifelong member of the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing.  She was also a lifelong member of the Moose and Eastern Star in Chisholm.   Dorothy was certified as a florist from The American Floral Art School in Chicago, Illinois.  When she returned to the Iron Range she worked under a number of area florists until she purchased her own flower shop “Flowers by Dorothy” also known as “Chisholm Floral”.  She was very active in the floral business for over 40 years and was recognized far and wide for her exquisite floral arrangements.   In 1991 Dorothy sold the successful business and retired at the end of 1992.  After retiring she continued to enjoy baking incredible delicacies such as Potica, Strudel (apple and cheese), Turtles etc. which were enjoyed by many family and friends.   Survivors include two daughters:  Donna (Robert) Milner-Thomas of Hibbing, MN and Judy (Leigh) Johnson of Rochester, MN; son:  Randy Beissel of Side Lake, MN; one brother:  Joe Burich of Coleraine, MN; one sister-in-law Gloria Burich of Grand Rapids, MN; grandchildren:  Robert (Eileen) Milner of Clinton, MS and Suzanne (Alan) Rogers of Scappoose, OR; and many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.   Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Gordon (Bernice) Burich, sister Zora (Frank) Dolinar, brother Bob Burich, sister-in-law Luverne Burich, sister Stella (Albert) Lucca, bother Peter Burich, and brother Bill (Betty) Burich.    Funeral:  Services will be held at 11am Monday, December 19, 2011 in the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing.  Reverend Father Vladimir Lange will officiate.   Visitation:  Will be for one hour prior to the service Monday in the church.   Burial:  Will be in Chisholm Cemetery   Pallbearers:  Robert Milner, Alan Rogers, Gary Dolinar, Randy Beissel,  Dr. Steve Enich and Dr. Michael Heck
