Donald Dennis Frider, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 27th at the age of ninety. He was born on November 13, 1935, in Hibbing, Minnesota, where he happily resided for the remainder of his life. Starting from humble beginnings as one of fourteen children, Don built a life for himself and his family through perseverance and hard work, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a proud meat cutter for over 50 years at various locations around the Iron Range, where he was known for his porketta and seasoned pork roast. Don was honored to have served his country in both the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves. After teaching himself the intricacies of his hobbies, he enjoyed carpentry and woodworking for many years, creating cherished gifts for family and friends. As the years passed, his passion for gaming grew, and he routinely made Thursday “business trips” to Fortune Bay, where he could be found playing Keno. You could also find Don at Steel Fitness, making friends while “pumping iron” where he would joke about his aspirations to make it on the cover of Muscle Magazine. His stories, wisdom, and quick wit will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara (Passino) Frider, and siblings Bernadine, Clarence, Francis, Robert, William, and Joanne.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marge; children Jane (Pete) Krasaway, Patti Wischnewski, and Donny (Amy Chuk) Frider; six grandchildren, Katie (Max) Veech, Danny Wischnewski, Cody Frider, Andy Krasaway, Megan (Mike Stevens) Frider, and Tracy Wischnewski; two great-grandchildren, Blake Frider and Connor Veech; and siblings Richard, Wallace, Michael, Eleanor, Bernice, June, and Sharon, along with many nieces and nephews.
