Donald L. Carlson

Donald Lloyd Carlson, age 74, of Hibbing, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at his home. He was born February 15, 1952, in Hibbing to Floyd and Joyce (Hawn) Carlson. Donald attended Hibbing High School, graduating with the class of 1970. Following graduation, he went on to earn his Automotive Mechanics degree at Hibbing Community College. Don held many jobs over the years, including at Rhude Ford, the Canisteo Mine, Eveleth Taconite, Clusiau’s Auto, Ken Waschke Auto Plaza, Northwoods Ford, and Radko. Donald loved cars. Since he was a child, he attended races in Hibbing through rain or shine. He enjoyed painting cars and entering his classic cars in shows, where he earned several trophies. Donald also enjoyed snowmobiling, having breakfast every weekday downtown at his favorite restaurants, Tuesday afternoon coffee in Chisholm with the guys, and playing dice with his friends on Thursdays at the Algonquin Club. He is survived by his wife, Vicki J. Carlson; son Eric J. Carlson and daughter-in- law Amy Coryell; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Shirley Kostek, Betty Kilen, and Ronald Carlson. Private services will be held at a later date.
