David Lewis Hill, age 67 of Side Lake, MN, passed away Wed. Nov. 29, 2023. He was born in Hibbing to Gene and Margaret “Sue” (Thornton) Hill. Dave was a Chisholm High School graduate with the class of 1974. He later earned his undergraduate degree from Hawaii Pacific University.
Dave began his military career when he enlisted in the Army in 1975. In 1983 he joined the Marines and proudly served his country as a Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1994. After his retirement, Dave continued his service as a DAV advocate working alongside his brother Danny who was the MN State DAV Commander. Together they were instrumental in passing the Minnesota State Property Tax Bill for Veterans. In addition, they helped advocate a traumatic care wing of the Minneapolis VA for fellow veterans. Dave proudly volunteered as a hospice caregiver for veterans, as well as a member of the Mid-Range Honor Guard.
Family meant everything to Dave, especially the love of his life, his Karen. Together they enjoyed many adventures from traveling to pontooning on the lakes by their home. Dave had a huge heart of gold and was a true gentleman. He truly had the gift of gab and never met a stranger. The family would like to thank the clergy and staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Dr. Okada and the emergency staff at Range Regional Medical Center, Dr. Delich and the entire staff at the Hibbing VA Clinic who took exceptional care of Dave. A special thank you to our friends for all the love and support throughout the years.
