Darryl Caroon, 85, of Hibbing, MN, passed away peacefully at Duluth Heights Assisted Living on March 9, 2024. He was born in Pine City, MN, on February 22, 1939, to George and Viola Caroon. Darryl's family moved to Pengilly, MN, in 1949 and went to school in Nashwauk, MN. He moved to Hibbing in 1957 and started working different jobs and eventually Hibbing Taconite and finally for the City of Hibbing where he retired from in 2002. Within that time, Darryl married the love of his life, Deborah Gail (Ylatupa) Caroon, on July 23, 1969. They started their family together raising three daughters. Darryl was a member of the Teamsters, Steelworkers and Minnesota AFSCME unions along with the Moose Club and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. After his retirement, Darryl was a health care driver for Care-A-Van Transportation in Hibbing for many years. He loved fishing, hunting, traveling the United States with Debbie in their RV, wintering in Zapata, TX, in the Rio Grande Valley and spending time at their seasonal site at the Swan Lake Campground. For the last two years, Darryl had his bonus family at Duluth Heights after Debbie passed where he tried new things like playing farkle, reading several books, performing in the musical resident group and serving on the resident council! He also enjoyed taking weekend trips to the Iron Range in his new Jeep and visiting his lifelong friends. Above all, Darryl loved his family and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Darryl is survived by daughters Jill (Raul) Pinedo, Julie (Reuben) Trujillo, and Lisa (Scott) Lurye, grandchildren Grace, Kelsey, Tyler, Jaden, Trevor, Brittany and Leyton, siblings Duane (Cindy) Caroon, Daniel (Debbie) Caroon, Kathleen Dahl, Jamie (Kevin) Liukonen and Jennifer (David) Rogers.He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Debbie and siblings Matt Caroon, Sharon Hedberg and Mary Jo Buttgereit. If you want to honor Darryl, please have a cold beer and tell a story as that is what he loved most. His cremated remains will be interred at the Maple Hill Columbarium in Hibbing with his wife. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Mike's Pub in Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
