Daniel James Quirk
Daniel James Quirk, 59 of Nashwauk, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, with family by his side. He was born on July 5, 1952, in Red Lake Falls, Minn., to Mike and Louise Quirk. Daniel grew up in Jordan (part of Chisholm) the youngest of 10 kids and graduated from Chisholm High School in 1970. He went on to graduate from Hibbing Technical College with an electrical degree.  He was united in marriage to Diane Schloesser on July 13, 1973. His face lit up whenever she was in the room. They shared countless memories throughout the years and loved to laugh together. Daniel and Diane lived in Hibbing, Minn., for many years where they raised their daughters. The couple later moved to Nashwauk. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 294, where he worked as an electrician.  Daniel was a strong union advocate, past union president, and taught electrical apprentices. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hibbing for many years and was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Nashwauk. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball, playing cards and board games, bird watching, making diamond willow lamps, taking care of everyone’s vehicles in “Bert’s Garage,” sharing stories, and laughing. He cherished spending time with loved ones. His family, especially his wife, daughters, son-in-laws, and grandson meant the world to him. He always made others smile, feel welcome, and would do anything for anyone. It was important to him to stand up for what he believed in, always do the right thing, and to fight for what mattered. He never gave up.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Nashwauk; three daughters:  Jami (Dennis) Gauthier of Eveleth, Melissa (Shawn) Cox of Hibbing, and Wendy (Eric) Schroeder; a grandson, Jayden Gauthier of Eveleth; three sisters: Mary Gramenz of St. Paul, Minn., Helen (Bob) Kliewer of Midwest City, Okla., and Lois (Brian) Passeri of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers: Frank (Virginia) Quirk, Dr. Mike (Carrie) Quirk, and Patrick Quirk, all of Chisholm; a sister-in-law, Eva Quirk of Chisholm, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers:  John, Robert, and Leo Quirk and infants Jacob and Richard Quirk.
