Daniel C. Dougherty

Daniel C. Dougherty Jr., age 83, of Weslaco, TX, formerly of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Aurora House in Weslaco, TX. He was born on October 8, 1942, in Virginia, MN, to Daniel and Mary (Turino) Dougherty.

Dan was raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, he moved to the Twin Cities for work, where he met and married Nancy Brummond. Early in their marriage, they returned to the Iron Range to raise their family. In the 1990’s, Dan and Nancy divorced. In 1994, Dan married Ginger Baumchen.

Dan began his career at Dostal Electronics before spending many years with Butler Steel, National Steel, and U.S. Steel, where he remained until his retirement. Retirement suited Dan well, and he stayed active by driving for Evergreen Industries and Shubat. He and Ginger also enjoyed spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas, where they made lasting friendships, spent countless hours in the woodshop, volunteered at Mables Free Clinic in Progreso, Mexico, and enjoyed many rounds of golf. One of Dan’s proudest golfing memories came in the fall of 2021, when he scored his first and only hole-in-one.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Dougherty; children, Daniel (Linda) Dougherty, Darren (Robin) Baumchen, Dawn (Ron) Della Paolera, De Lane (Kristina) Baumchen, and Deanndra (David) Flaschberger; siblings, Peggy Anderson, and Jack (Doreen) Dougherty; grandchildren, Jenica (Brian) Clapsaddle, Samantha (Matt) Peters, Kyle (Lu) Ping, Tyler (Morgan) Baumchen, Joshua Baumchen, Nicole Arn, Monica Della Paolera, Kristen (Tristan) Larsen, Ryan Flaschberger; great-grandchildren, William Baumchen, Elodie Peters, Lane Baumchen, Leon Clapsaddle, Viola Peters, Aspen Larsen, Declan Clapsaddle, Avery Peters, Hugh Baumchen.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel & Mary Dougherty.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 21st, 2026, at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior, and a luncheon will be held at the Mesabi County Club in Hibbing from 12-2 p.m. following the service. In lieu of flowers, we would like memorial gifts sent to the American Cancer Society or the Swan Lake Country Club.
