Dale A. Timmerman, 86, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing with his wife and family at his side. He was born in Hibbing on February 19, 1938 to Arthur and Jean (Rutherford) Timmerman. He attended Hibbing Schools and graduated in 1956. Dale then spent two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany during the Lebanese crisis in the Middle East. After discharge, he married his high school sweetheart JoAnne Ruzich. They shared 65 years together and raised their family in Kelly Lake. Dale was very proud of his four sons and their families.

Dale was employed at the Hibbing Daily Tribune as an Advertising Salesman for 13 years and then worked at the Hibbing V Store as manager for 4 years. Dale retired after 30 years of employment from Manney’s Shopper where he worked in the Art Department.

Throughout Dale’s life he shared much of his time and hobbies with his best friend and brother Neill. They were partners in a Game Farm and raised all kinds of birds. They hunted together for most of their lives until Neill’s death in 2012.

At the age of 50, Dale discovered wood carving and persued a carving career that lasted until his death. Dale took carving lessons from many famous carvers all over the country. Dale shared his talent and love of carving by teaching it at the Range Art Center in Hibbing. After the center closed, he taught classes out of his home in Kelly Lake. He also taught carving for the Union Career Development Programs in the area mines. Dale Carved for the Superior Sunken Log Company in Ashland, Wisconsin. His carvings were featured in many carving magazines, and he won many awards over the years for his work. Dale was a member of the Iron Range Carvers and the Midwest Carvers of Nebraska. He also had affiliations with the carvers of Iowa, the National Wood Carvers, and had carvings on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. Several of Dale’s many carvings are still available for viewing or sale.

Dale was a proud member of the VFW and a member of MUNG Industries (Minnesota Unemployed Nice Guys) in Hibbing.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Neill and Dennis. He is survived by his sister, Leah Haverkost; wife JoAnne; sons, Greg-Bing(Cathy), Scott (Cindy), Brian, and Kevin (Vicki); grandchildren Greg, Travis, Jason (Ann) Timmerman, Brittany (Chris) Anderson and Samantha (Ben) Burdorf.
