Curtis D. Kmett

Curtis D. Kmett, 86, of Hibbing, MN, passed away at Guardian Angels in Hibbing on August 2, 2026. He was born in Chisholm, MN, on January 28, 1940, to Frank and Ruth (Murray) Kmett. Curtis grew up in the Balkan Township and Hibbing areas. After school, he started working in the mines as soon as possible. Curtis met and married Arlene Ohman and together they started their family. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting deer and fishing with his dear friends and family. Curtis enjoyed watching golf and every Saturday night, you could find him at the stock car races in Hibbing. He and Arlene loved to dance and would seek out live music for fun. Curtis' faith was of utmost importance to him as he was a devout Catholic and member of the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Curtis is survived by his children Shirley (Kevin Johnson) Kmett and Loren (Melissa) Kmett, grandchildren Nathan Kmett and Rachel (Tyler) Schneider, brothers-in-law Gaylen and Jerry Ohman, great-grandchildren Izabell, Rowan and Sophia and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Dennis and infant son Steven.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing. Visitation will begin an hour prior to mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
