Charles M. "Charlie" Johnson

Charles M. Johnson, 51, Hibbing died Monday, January 12, 2026, at his home in Hibbing after a four-year battle with Synovial Sarcoma. He was born September 4, 1974, to Mary Lynn (Berglund) and Darrell Johnson in Crookston, MN. Charlie grew up in Crookston, MN, later moving to New Braunfels, Texas where he lived for 13 years. Charlie then moved to Hibbing where he has resided since 2019. His most recent employments were JCH Construction and Champion Charter which he enjoyed both dearly. He enjoyed playing football and wrestled in his high school years until an injury stopped his career moving forward. Charlie loved being a MN sports fan, especially for the Vikings and Twins teams. He enjoyed UTV’s, hunting, and traveling as some of his favorite hobbies.

Charlie is survived by his parents, Mary Lynn Johnson, Crookston, and Darrell (Peggy) Johnson, also of Crookston, MN, his sister, Shannon (Bruce) Porter, Euclid, MN, his beloved companion, Liz Kolden, Hibbing, MN, her children, Carly Kolden, Duluth, MN, and Drew Kolden, Hibbing, MN, Liz’ parents, Thomas and Peggy Jivery, Hibbing, MN, his dear niece, Johnna Porter, Euclid, MN, his lifelong best friend, Brett Delage, Crookston, MN, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Johnson, maternal grandparents, Oscar and Margaret Berglund, and paternal grandparents, Charles and Mamie Johnson.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 – 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. An additional gathering will then follow at Mr. Nick’s Corner Bar in Hibbing, immediately after the services at Dougherty’s. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Angel Fund or to Fairview Range Hospice in Hibbing. A private interment will take place at a later date in Crookston, MN.
