Carolyn M Gillis, 93, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Monday December 11, 2023 at Silver Creek On Main assisted living in Maple Grove MN.
She was born December 23, 1929, in Hammond Indiana, Daughter of Edward and Violet  (Jensen) Pixley.  She married John B Gillis on September 11, 1949 in Bear River MN.  She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing and a Member of P.E.O.(Philanthropic Educational Organization).  Carolyn was an elementary school teacher in the Hibbing school system for over 20 years. She traveled around the US and the world, was an avid Bridge player, loved baking and candy making, enjoyed doing the daily crossword and time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her children John (Patricia) Gillis of Johnsburg IL, Susan Stavn of Ramsey, MN and  Terry (Karen) Gillis of Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren: Shana (Adam) Valenta, Kristopher (Kerri) Gillis, Nicholas Hartman, Robert (Heather) Gillis and Erica (Mike) Pate; great-grandchildren: Joseph Valenta, Connor Valenta, Taylor Ann Gillis, Peyton Gillis and Curt Lynn; Siblings: Roberta Fletcher of Maple Grove, MN, and Edward Pixley of Onenota, NY, sister-in-law Ruby Mielke and brother-in-law Timothy (Debra) Gillis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John B. Gillis; sister Mildred Morstead and brother Jack Pixley.
Memorial Service:  Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Katie Larson will officiate at the service.
Visitation:  Will be held for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the Church.
Burial: Internment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens near Hibbing.
Memorials:  Memorials are preferred and may be directed to P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization, Chapter EE, Attn: Treasure, 3626 2nd Avenue East, Hibbing MN 55746)
