Candace "Candy" L. Lunning

Candace “Candy” Lee Lunning, age 80, of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. She was born on August 25, 1946, to Anthony “Tony” and Marian (Salilla) Rose.

Candy was a lifelong resident of Hibbing, with a chapter of her life spent in Palm Harbor, Florida, before returning home. Candace attended Hibbing High School and Beauty School before working at Supervalu Grocery Store. She later began her career in banking as a teller and worked there until she retired. Candy married the love of her life, Norman Lunning, on October 16, 1965, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing, MN. She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Candy was known for her cooking skills, always making sure a warm meal was on the table for her family and friends to enjoy, especially her Spaghetti Sauce, which she mastered over the years. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite sporting teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Wild, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Candy would always find time to keep up with the latest contestants on The Voice, American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Norman “Doug” Lunning; Children, Terra Lunning and Doughlas Lunning; grandchildren, Jack and Ada Lunning; and was very close with her ex-daughters-in-law, Lisa and Tiffany.

She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Cinden “Cindy” Rude.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Candace and her daughter Cinden will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and Father Daniel Weiske will officiate. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Maple Hill Columbarium in Hibbing, MN. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, MN.
