August “Gus” E. Klaysmat

            August E. “Gus” Klaysmat, 88, longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.  He was born January 14, 1935, to August and Gladys (Garski) Klaysmat in Hibbing.  He attended Hibbing schools and graduated from Hibbing High School.  August entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Shirley Novak on October 24, 1959, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  After marriage, he and Shirley moved out to Denver, CO, and later resided in Casper, WY, for 17 years before returning to Hibbing.  August was employed with Cleveland Cliffs as a Pit Foreman before retirement.  He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  August enjoyed the boundary waters and took many fishing trips with his buddies to Crow Lake in Ontario during the summer and winter months.  August was known as your typical jokester.  His quick wit gave him the gift of many classic one-liners. 

            August is survived by his wife, 64+ years, Shirley Klaysmat, Hibbing, MN, his two children, Terri Klaysmat, Bovey, MN, and Robert Klaysmat, Hibbing, MN

 along with his nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, August, and Gladys, three brothers, Albert, George, and Raymond Klaysmat, and an infant sister.

            Funeral services for August will be 12:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Bill Skarich will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.
