Arthur E. Englund, age 95 of Hibbing, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation in Hibbing. He was born March 6, 1931, to Oscar and Ida (Gref) Englund in Hibbing. Art was a 1949 graduate of Hibbing High School he would later go on to Hibbing Community College, earning his A.A. In 1952, Arthur enlisted in the US Air Force, he was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany with the 41st RSM Squadron and honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was joined in marriage to Mazie Andersen of Mound, MN on October 17, 1953. Arthur attended Michigan Tech, earning his Bachelor of Science in Mineral Dressing. He was a Metallurgical Engineer working for the Hanna Mining Company, Pickands Mather Research and later retiring from Hibbing Taconite/Cleveland-Cliffs. Art also had a mining related consulting business after retirement. Being an active member of the community, Art was involved in numerous organizations throughout his life including; the Girl Scout Board in Hibbing, the Masonic Lodge, NE Minnesota Engineering Club, Society of Metallurgical Engineering, longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing, WMPB Itasca County, the Swan Lake Country Club, Hibbing Planning Commission, the Hibbing Curling Club and the Swede/Finn Society. In retirement Art found joy in visiting his children in Colorado and Alaska, where he was instrumental in helping his son Paul with his air service business. He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Mazie, children, Katheryn (Gary) Davis, Golden, CO, Paul (Shannon) Englund, Stevensville, MT, brother, John Englund, Columbus, OH, grandchildren, Nathan (Amber Answine) Englund, Missoula, MT, Kristen (E.J. Griego) Englund, Chugiak, AK, Cole (Mary Anne) Davis, Houston, TX, Brynne (Ashton Altmann) Davis, Rochester, MN. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ida, siblings, Helen, Helga, Janet and George.
Memorial service will be held 12 noon, Monday, April 13, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Inurnment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Hibbing or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
