Carol Ann Olson Blomberg, age 72, passed away in a tragic car accident on May 21, 2012, a few miles north of Nashwauk, MN. Carol was born June 21, 1939 at the Rood Hospital in Hibbing, Minnesota. She was a lifelong resident of the Nashwauk area as well as member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church where she was Baptized March 24, 1940; Confirmed June 6, 1954; Married June 29, 1957; and will have her Memorial Service July 30, 2012.
Carol graduated from Nashwauk High School in June of 1957. She was a proud alumnus and enjoyed working to arrange frequent class reunions and get-togethers with classmates. She was in the process of helping to arrange a 50’s reunion that was held July 2, 2012, and was looking forward to attending the event.
Carol’s spent her entire career in banking. Beginning at the American National Bank in Nashwauk as a teller and attaining the position of Cashier before she moved to the Merchants and Miners National Bank in Hibbing where she served as a Vice President. February 2, 1993, Wells Fargo acquired Merchants and Miners Bank and she continued her employment there as a Personal Banker until February 1, 1994, when she became a Market Administration Officer. She retired from Wells Fargo Bank Minnesota NA on July 2, 1999.
Carol was active in many church, civic and community affairs:
• She was a loyal and active member of Nashwauk Lutheran Church serving as a past Sunday School Superintendent, Church Women Member, Prayer Shawl Ministry and Pasty Crew member.
• She had been active with the Girl Scouts Land of Lakes Council and Cloverdale 4-H Club.
• She was a chartered member and the first full term president of the Soroptimist Internationalist of the Hibbing Area Club. She remained active and held a variety of offices, served on the Board of Directors and many committees.
• She was a Gov. Rudy Perpich appointee to the board that planned housing for MN Community Colleges.
• A member of the Nashwauk Book Club and Birthday Club.
• A breast cancer survivor of more than 18 years, she visited and encouraged others confronted with the disease.

Carol loved playing Dominos, line dancing, entertaining - especially her family on the 4th of July, and quilting. She was proud of her Norwegian Heritage and an active member of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Hibbing. She and Clem traveled to Norway three times. While there they became acquainted with relatives and visited the family farm where her father was born.

A beloved wife, daughter, sister, and aunt she is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Clement Blomberg; sister Joyce Clark; brothers John (Carol) Olson and Jim Olson; many nieces, nephews, relatives here and in Norway, and other loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Carroll Olson; brothers-in law Dennis Clark, John and David Blomberg. She loved her family and friends and being a Winter Texan, but was always happy to return to Minnesota and Bray Lake for the summer. Carol will be forever loved, treasured, and missed.
Memorial services have been delayed to allow for Clem’s recovery.  Memorial Services will be held at the Nashwauk Lutheran Church, 304 Third Street, Nashwauk, MN on July 30, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at the Dougherty Funeral Home, 2615 First Avenue, Hibbing, Minnesota, Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on July 30, 2012. Private family burial immediately following the service at the Nashwauk Cemetery.  A reception in Hibbing will follow the memorial service.  Carol’s family would appreciate an RSVP by July 20 from guests who will attend the reception to John Olson’s email account, oleone1945@yahoo.com.  To sign the online guest register, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
