Thomas KarakashMay 30, 1927 ~ June 16, 2017 (age 90)
Thomas Karakash, 90, formerly of Hibbing, passed away peacefully Friday June 16, 2017 at the Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, MN. Tom was born May 30, 1927 in Calumet, MN to Louis and Helen (Mikulich) Karakash. Tom was the youngest and last surviving of 13 children.
Tom proudly served his country during WWII in the AAF with the 82nd Airborne Division. Shortly after WWII, Tom served in the Army Air Corp. On December 26, 1953 Tom married Ann Paun of Ely, MN and they were married for nearly 60 years. Tom was self employed and along with Ann owned several businesses throughout the years. Most recently, the owned and operated Retreat Lodge Resort on Lake Vermillion. Tom and Ann were also members of the Blessed Sacrament church in Hibbing.
Tom is survived by his children: Mark Karakash of Grygla, MN, Paul Karakash of Hibbing, Teresa Felmlee of Rochester MN, Peter Karakash of Hibbing, John (Shaun) Karakash of Chisholm, MN; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and sister-in-law Rose (Louis) Lackner
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife Ann Karakash and a grandchild David Karakash.
Funeral services for Thomas will be 11:00am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday. A luncheon will immediately follow the funeral Mass. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid Range Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
