Roland M. “Chum” Racette Jr., died Friday, October 5, 2018 at Guardian Angels Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born April 1, 1942 to Roland and Imogene M. “Honey” (Sampson) Racette Sr. in Hibbing. He attended Hibbing Schools, and also Dunwoody Institute. Roland was employed with various businesses throughout his life, driving truck, Jack & Don’s, Butler Brothers Mining Company, and most recent National Steel Pellet Co, where he retired after 38 years of service. Roland’s favorite pastime was classic cars, he owned a 49 Ford which was his pride and joy, a 1968 convertible, and a 1978 Ford F 150. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Carlson, Eagan, MN, Nicole (Tim) Kruse, Hugo, MN, and Tom Racette, Lino Lakes, MN, his grandchildren, Mitchell Kruse, Michael Kruse, Mac Carlson, and his beloved granddog, Lady, the St. Bernard. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Thomas in 1941. Funeral services for Roland will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 12, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Sarah Fike will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The visitation will then continue from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.
