Reiko Bauer

October 8, 1928 ~ July 16, 2018 (age 89)

Reiko Tateuji Bauer passed away after a battle with colorectal cancer at the age of 89. In addition to cancer she also struggled with Alzheimer’s. Reiko was born in Hokkaido, Japan in October of 1928. She met her husband Kenneth Bauer and married in 1955. They moved to the United States in 1956 and had 3 beautiful children. While raising her children on her own, Reiko had to quickly learn the English language, how to drive and basically everything else that came with living in America. She raised her children the best she knew how and went to beauty school and became a part-time beautician in 1977. She also loved oil painting and went to Jr. College for oil painting classes.  She took up jogging in 1977 with her daughter Debbie and then loved to walk when she no longer could jog. She was a strong, smart, incredible woman who has strong family values and taught these values to her children. 
Reiko is survived by her children, RoseMary Grenzebach of Germany, Harvey Bauer of New Mexico and Debra Whitney of Kansas. She has 4 wonderful grandchildren, Ellen Grenzebach, Anna Grenzebach, Scott Whitney and Michael Whitney. Reiko also has 2 great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth Bauer, 1966, who died in the Vietnam War. 
A memorial service in Reiko’s honor will be held 12:00 noon, Monday, August 6, 2018 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing with the Reverend Steve Tomberlin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held following the service at Maple Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that no flowers be sent.
